The Winston watch will continue into next week it appears, this according to ESPN who said Winston’s father, Antonor Winston said the timetable for an announcement will be sometime after Monday’s college football championship game.
Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota are the two best quarterback prospects but neither has officially declared for the April 30 NFL Draft.
The Buccaneers hold the overall No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and most expect Tampa Bay to go quarterback with that selection.
Underclassmen have until January 15th to make their decision known to the NFL.

Interesting. The only advantage I see from waiting until after the national championship is over next week is waiting to see if Mariota declares or not. The difference between Mariota declaring is just the difference of being drafted #1 or #2 for Winston. Does he care that much which one he is to defer his decision until after he sees what Mariota does? Apparently so. Again…interesting. Based on what he has said up to this point about wanted to return to FSU I’m starting to believe more than not that he will actually stay in school another year.
Winston should know there is no guarantee that he will go at # 2 or even the top 5. Aaron Rodgers sitting in the green room as he slid all the way down to the 20’s is a perfect example. He would be better served by remaining in school (he’s only 20 years old) and erasing any doubts about his character. I’ve always thought it best for QB’s to finish out their college careers. Plus it makes Licht’s choices easier.
I’m undecided who is the best choice. Winston’s of the field issues and Mariota’s on the field play are concerning. Gotta get the right OC for whomever they select. Lovie is fortunate to have a huge contract – so he’ll cash in whether he’s right or wrong in the decision. As a season ticket holder, either player should bring us something to cheer for – as well as the vastly improving defense that Lovie has implemented……..on another note, good to see Mark Cook’s health improving a has been reported on the Twittersphere……take care of yourself, man.
