By Roy Miller as told to Charlie Campbell
There is a lot of emotion and excitement heading into this first game. I'm definitely pumped up right now and excited, but when it is game time and the ball is snapped I'll be back in my comfort zone and ready to play. You just have to calm yourself and focus on your assignments.
I'm grew up in Texas, so of course I'm very familiar with the Cowboys. I grew up liking the Dallas colors, but I wouldn't say I grew up a fan of them. Everybody in Texas is either a Dallas or Houston fan.
Late this week the coaching staff held Ryan Sims out of practice, but he is probable to play in the game. If Ryan can't start, I will take his place, but I don't expect that to happen. For me it is just an honor to run out of that tunnel, and be a part of this team. It is a great team. There are a lot of great players on this team excited to get this season started. I‘m just going into this game prepared to do anything. If the coaches make that decision I'll do whatever I got to do.
The Cowboys have a big offensive line. They look real good. They have strengths, but they also have weaknesses. The entire offense looks good. There are not too many weaknesses on the offense, but it has been our job all week trying to figure out what we can take advantage of.
Their offensive line stacks up well with the guys that we have on our offensive line. We have some great players, so our guys have helped me get ready to go against Cowboys. We have Pro Bowlers and so do they. I'll probably get action against both guards, Leonard Davis and Kyle Kosier, depending on how we rotate. I'm prepared for both and have studied both sides of the Dallas offensive line. There are not too many weaknesses in their game, but we will attack them. I'm very confident in the practice I've received leading up to this game, and there were great looks by our scout offense, so I'm confident.
One thing I wanted to share with Bucs fans is how much I admire and respect a Tampa Bay legend in defensive tackle Warren Sapp. I had a great deal of respect for Sapp going into college, so much so that is why I wore number 99 at Texas. To come here and wear that number doesn't make sense. The expectations on a defensive tackle wearing that number would be huge. I want to come here and learn. I'm nowhere near Sapp right now.
Sapp was a great player. I feel that his jersey number shouldn't be given to anybody. Definitely he is one of the greatest defensive tackles to ever play the game. I don't feel like I deserve to wear that number coming here as a rookie. I wore it at Texas, but my coaches and Mr. Dominik gave 93 to me. I feel like I will just role with that, and work to make 93 a memorable number.
Now that training camp and the preseason are done we get into a little bit more of a routine with having some time off. I'm still trying to find my way around Tampa. I've been to Clearwater beach a few times, and that is beautiful. I like that. I haven't really found too many hobbies yet. Maybe I can get my defensive line buddy Kyle Moore out there fishing with me one day. If I can get him away from the ladies, just kidding. I haven't had a chance to get into the Cuban food, but I'm looking to try that soon. I'm looking forward to seeing you Bucs fans around town this season, and that brings me to something I wanted to say to you readers.
I appreciate all your support. It is really encouraging to see the support from you guys in the messages I've read in article commenting. There is nothing but support, and I appreciate that. I'm going to try and be everything I can be for you fans, for myself, and for my family. I just appreciate you guys being so great and coming out to our training camp practices, events at the stadium, and the games. Charlie and I extended the entries for awhile because you guys seemed to be enjoying them.
I know that this team is very important to a lot of people. To have your support is an honor to me, and I really do appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
