The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took the practice field Monday with a few new players.

The Bucs made a few roster moves, signing linebacker Bo Ruud, who is the younger brother of Barrett Ruud, and the son of former NFL LB Tom Ruud.

Tampa Bay also signed free agent cornerback Darrell Hunter and placed linebacker Angelo Crowell (arm) on injured reserve.

Bo and Barrett Ruud are reunited in Tampa Bay. They played collegiate football together at Nebraska.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Bo Ruud originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick with the New England Patriots in 2008.

After spending most of his rookie season on injured reserve with an ankle injury, the Patriots waived/injured Bo Ruud in April, and he was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns, who released Ruud on Aug. 17.

He refuses to dwell on what might have been in New England and Cleveland. Instead, he's focused on being part of Tampa Bay's defense.

"The thing that is so special about Tampa's defense is the effort they play with," said Ruud. "They absolutely fly around and hit people. It's really impressive. That's the signature of the Bucs.

"Sometimes you can't put your finger on [why things don't work out]. You just have to move on, look at the opportunities in front of you and try to take advantage of those ones."

Bo Ruud was back home in Lincoln, Nebraska when he got the phone call from the Buccaneers on Sunday.

"Yesterday, they just called me," said Ruud. "I wasn't expecting any openings, but I guess they had some injuries. They called me and told me to get on a plane, and an hour later I was flying."

A three-year starter at Nebraska, Bo Ruud recorded 216 tackles, which ranks 22nd all-time in school history. He also had six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and five interceptions in 46 games (33 starts) while playing both weakside and strongside linebacker.

Despite being his brother, the Bucs apparently didn't ask Barrett for a scouting report on Bo.

"He had no idea," Bo said of Barrett. "He was kind of shocked yesterday when I called him and told him."

Hunter (5-11, 211) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2006. He played collegiately at Miami of Ohio.

The Bucs and Hunter are already familiar with each other. Hunter spent time on Tampa Bay's practice squad in 2007, and spent the 2008 training camp with the Bucs.

In addition to playing with the Cardinals, Saints and Bucs, Hunter had a brief stint in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Crowell, 28, signed a one-year contract with the Bucs during the offseason after spending the first five seasons of his career with Buffalo. He missed significant playing time during organized team activities while recovering from last year's knee surgery, and was sidelined for most of training camp with a hamstring ailment before sustaining a torn biceps injury vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night.
