Running back Bobby Rainey performed extremely well for the Buccaneers against the St. Louis Rams in Week 2, totaling 144 rushing yards on 22 carries. He also added three catches for 30 yards for those in PPR formats. Rainey looked explosive and made the most of his opportunity as the team’s bellcow at the running back position. Rainey is worth a look on the waiver wire if he’s available. Even when Doug Martin returns to action, look for Rainey to eat into Martin’s workload.
Quarterback Josh McCown hasn’t been a standout performer in real life but after his Week 2 performance the journeyman quarterback ranks in the top half of the league for fantasy purposes at the quarterback position. McCown has been held under 200 passing yards in back-to-back games, but he rushed for two touchdowns against the Rams to help bolster his fantasy numbers.
It was another disappointing Sunday for Bucs fantasy football owners who have wide receivers Vincent Jackson or Mike Evans on their rosters. Jackson caught just four passes for 51 yards and Evans hauled in four passes for 49 yards. Despite his poor numbers to start the season, Jackson remains a must-play fantasy receiver.
Rookie slot receiver Robert Herron didn’t record a catch against Carolina in Week 1 but he caught two passes for 13 yards against the Rams in Week 2. However, Herron isn’t worth rostering even in the deepest of leagues.
Tight end Brandon Myers caught two balls for 33 yards against the Rams after recording six catches against the Panthers last week. It’s only a matter of time before talented rookie Austin Seferian-Jenkins takes over as the Buccaneers starting tight end, but he’s currently nursing a sprained ankle.
Defensive linemen William Gholston and Clinton McDonald each recorded a sack for the Buccaneers defense. Both players aren’t worth rostering in IDP formats.
The Buccaneers saw a few of their key defensive players go down with injuries against the Rams. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy broke his hand in the first quarter and his status is uncertain heading into Thursday night’s game against Atlanta. Middle linebacker Mason Foster also went down with a dislocated shoulder and it looks like he’ll be out for an extended period of time. The Buccaneers team defense hasn’t been good for fantasy purposes so far this season and they face a rough upcoming schedule with three straight road games (Falcons, Steelers, Saints).
