Winborn Remains A Buccaneer PewterReport.com has learned that linebacker Jamie Winborn will remain a Buccaneer in 2007.
Winborn, who signed a two-year contract with the Bucs last offseason, had a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to buy himself out of the final year of his deal.
The language written into Winborn’s deal stated that he had to buy himself out of his contract with the Bucs 10 days before the start of the first day of the new league year.
Winborn, 27, was seeking a long-term contract from the Buccaneers, but it is unclear as to whether Winborn actually received a new contract or will simply play out his existing deal with the Buccaneers. Â
Had he decided to exercise the buyout clause in his contract, Winborn would have had to repay the Buccaneers the $200,000 bonus he received in 2006.
By remaining under contract with Tampa Bay, Winborn will receive another $200,000 roster bonus this offseason.
