Year 2 of the Jameis Winston era is about to get underway when training camp starts Thursday.
The National Football League has announced late Monday evening that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been added to the 2016 Pro Bowl roster. Winston will replace New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. He is the first Buccaneers rookie to earn a selection since Doug Martin in 2012.
Winston started all 16 games for Tampa Bay, throwing for 4,042 yards and 22 touchdown passes, with six rushing touchdowns. His 4,042 passing yards are the third-most by a rookie in NFL history and tied for the fourth-most in a single season by a Buccaneers quarterback. His combined 28 touchdowns (22 passing, six rushing) are the most by a quarterback in Buccaneers history and tie for the third-most by a rookie in NFL history.
Winston joins linebacker Lavonte David, guard Logan Mankins, running back Doug Martin and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on the 2016 Pro Bowl roster. Tampa Bay’s five selections this season are the most for the team since 2002, when they had seven players selected. Winston is the first Buccaneers quarterback to earn a spot on the roster since 2007 (Jeff Garcia) and he is the first rookie quarterback to do so in team history, while becoming the first rookie quarterback named to the contest since 2012 (Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck & Russell Wilson).

Good for Jameis! I know the pro-bowl isn’t what it used to be with players not going and such, but this is one of many pro-bowls he will go to.
Now if only he had that electric foot speed that Mariota has.
He scored more touchdowns running then Mariota so he doesn’t need the electric foot speed. All speed does for a QB is shorten their career.
Great way to phrase that. I agree completely
Cgmaster was just calling out a certain poster on here who thinks mariota is better because he has quicker feet. It’s a well earned award for Jameis. Plus his case got settled out of court. Now our franchise quarterback can focus strictly on football. We almost had more pro bowlers than wins. Good riddance lovie
Here here, chef
His case didn’t settle, the case against FSU settled. His is still pending including his counter-suit. I hope he doesn’t settle and wins his counter to shut up a lot of uninformed people out there.
oops, just noticed others already clarified. Sorry.
Thank you for the clarification. I misread.
I’m just kidding there fella. I was merely poking fun at another poster on here.
Wahoooo!! That must have been a deflating loss for Brady. Now, if Jameis can only get ROY…
After that beating he took, he is probably still sitting in the tub right now. Although having Giselle there to ease the “pain” would probably make him feel a little better.
I’ve gotta give him that… Back to Jameis; I’m not sure why there is so much talk about Gurley being the front runner for the ROY? Jameis had a rookie season for the ages at the hardest position in sports, and a running back is in the lead?
Let’s see……6 wins and 5 Pro Bowl players. The 1997 roster had 9 wins and 8 Pro Bowl players. What does that mean stat geeks?
Chef, FSU settled out of court, Winstons case is still pending.
Yeah I thought it was hysterical that she only got 250,000 out of the 900,000.
I’m always happy to see a Buc go to the Pro Bowl so congrats to Winston. The only time I watch the Pro Bowl is when there’s a Buc in it. I don’t post as much about Mariota vs. Winston because I already know how this will end up. So far, both of their first years have gone the way I expected (except Mariota getting injured) so I expect their careers to continue the way I expected. Most on both sides of the debate have quit listening to reason (e.g. there’s a debate going now about foot speed) so I’ve postponed rational conversation on the subject until we have enough data to erase all doubt. For me, that’s another 2 years from now. I just hope they both remain healthy for those two years because injuries muddy the data.
I must admit that Mariota is better than I originally thought. His durability was a big concern for me and he’s done nothing to silence that piece of criticism. I think he has a bright future as long they protect him a lot better and give him a few options. Still happy with the choice we made but definitely man enough to say overall you were right on his readiness to play.
Very well thought out Pink. I hope both players have excellent careers. Can’t go wrong with either one on your team.
weapons not options
Fans what does this tell about the bucs NOW.Espically James Winston are joining 4 other Bucs.Maybe Just Maybe next year Tampa will Explod on the scene. and kill some of the bigger teams. I really like 29 players that played in the game on sat in St Pete/Tampa area. GO BUCS and the NEW Staff.
I believe by law attorney’s can’t take more than 40 percent of the settlement. That $250K figure was pure speculation.
I to hope Winston doesn’t settle but I am sure he will if given a chance just to see it all go away.
Five pro bowl players ought to amount to more than six wins. Something just wasn’t right on this team and further proof a change had to be made.
drdneast, the salesman who knows it all. You’re consistent narrow narratives are laughable. You have surpassed Johnny G as the most comedic poster…thanks!!
Apparently the 40% figure is just speculation, too.
What is McCoy’s status, BTW? Did he need surgery, or does he just need time for that shoulder to heal?
Good question WilltheBrewer. What do you hear PR.
I hope Jameis doesn’t take this as validation that he is an elite QB. I want him to be pissed off and motivated to improve.
Can’t speak for him as I don’t know him personally, but after watching him for the last 4 years , I guarantee you he wants nothing more than to win and get better. This is nice for him but he’d rather be playing meaningful games right now. To be the best you have to win it all.
