The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hosting Packers free agent strong safety Kentrell Brice today. The Bucs are looking for a veteran safety to replace Chris Conte in the secondary. Conte is an unrestricted free agent who has played in Tampa Bay since 2015 and is not expected to be re-signed.
Brice visited with Houston and Indianapolis prior to visiting Tampa Bay on Monday.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Brice is one of the more athletic safeties in the NFL, and the Bucs want to get faster on defense. Brice entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech in 2016 and had interest from the Bucs at that time, but elected to sign with Green Bay. Brice has played in 36 games with 14 starts for the Packers, collecting 98 tackles, six pass breakups, one sack, one fumble recovery and one interception. He saw the most action last year with 10 starts in 14 games, finishing with a career-high 39 tackles, two pass breakups and a sack.
Brice was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in 2016, but posted some eye-opening numbers at his pro day where he ran a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 42-inch vertical jump, which would have been the highest number at the Combine for any defensive back. His 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump and his 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press would have ranked second among DBs at the Combine, too.
