Bruce Arians has a history of turning around a team. In 2012, Arians became interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts after Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with Leukemia and helped lead them to a 9-3 record, which included winning the AP Coach Of The Year Award.
The following season, Arians took over a 5-11 Arizona Cardinals team and got them to go 10-6 in his first season as their head coach. He followed that up the next two seasons with a 11-5 and 13-3 record. He then notched a second AP Coach Of The Year Award in 2014.
It’s that knack for being able to flip a switch on a franchise that has so many optimistic that Arians can do the same with the 2019 Bucs.
During a segment on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” show, analyst Kyle Brandt in fact picked Arians’ Bucs to be the team that will turn heads this season. Brandt credited Arians notoriety for having an immediate effect on a team as for why the Bucs will improve. He also expects an even better season from wide receiver Mike Evans, who he called underrated.
Evans is already the best receiver in Bucs history. In only five seasons, he is the franchise leader in receiving yards with 6,103, and touchdowns with 40. He even came off a career best 1,524 receiving yards in 2018, and yet has never been a first team All-Pro.
With Arians’ reputation for taking many shots down the field, the thought is that it will help shed this notion of Evans getting overlooked by others.
“Let me tell you something about Bruce Arians,” Brandt said. “Bruce Arians showed up in the desert for the woe be gone Arizona Cardinals who were 5-11, like that [snaps fingers] they go to 10-6. Carson Palmer was terrible with the Raiders, like that [snaps fingers again], incredible.
Watch Bruce Arians do something this year with Jameis, with that talent. Have I given you my Mike Evans spiel yet? The most underrated player in the entire NFL. I am a big Mike Evans guy. I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I don’t know if they’ll win 12 games, nine, whatever, they will turn heads, they will make splashes. Deep balls all day.”
"They will turn heads, they will make splashes."
We couldn't agree more, @KyleBrandt. 😊
