The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that the NFL has suspended cornerback Ryan Smith for four games of the 2019 regular season without pay for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug (PED) policy.

Smith, who is entering a contract year, is eligible to participate in training camp and the 2019 preseason games, but will have to leave the team and the facility for four weeks. He is eligible to return after the Bucs’ game in Los Angeles against the Rams on September 30.

“We are disappointed that Ryan will be unavailable for the first four games of the season,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht said. “We do extensive training and education for our players regarding the league’s polices, but ultimately each individual is responsible for what they put in their bodies.”
