As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get ready for their first preseason game of the 2019 season this week in Pittsburgh, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is getting ready for his first game as a Buccaneer.
It won’t just be Suh’s first game. It will also be the first game for new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to find out what he really has in his defense.

Suh explained that Bowles’ defense, as we have been told, is very diverse. No defensive lineman is asked to just do one thing. Suh said being versatile, such as playing defensive end as well as defensive tackle, is something he has done in the past, and something he takes pride in.

The defensive line as been showing out during the first few weeks of camp, and that has brought some question marks and doubts around how good the offensive line is. But on Wednesday Suh said that the group is getting coached hard. They’re purposefully throwing different things at the offensive line so they can see it, succeed or fail and get better. They’re not holding anything back, and offensive line is responding well.

Finally Suh talked about the man he’s going to be running next to for most of the year — they hope — defensive tackle Vita Vea.
Suh said he didn’t know any new details on Vea’ injury, but said that when he’s been on the field, Vea has been “a force to be reckoned with.”
Hopefully these guys get the chance to play a lot of games together in 2019.
