As the Bucs get ready to welcome the Dolphins to town for joint practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, they went very light in practice on Monday, wearing shells for the second straight day.

Many Bucs starters such as Demar Dotson and Ndamukong Suh sat out in preparation for the joint practices and even the starters that did participate were used sparingly.

That was also the case for starting quarterback Jameis Winston, who ended up throwing just nine passes in the entire practice. He spent most of his time linking up with his top receiver, Mike Evans on the afternoon.

Winston continued to keep up with his new form of quick passes and decision making. His first pass of practice was a five-yard out route to O.J.Howard, but then had some overthrows to Howard again and then to Chris Godwin on a deep ball. Neither overthrow was terribly too far, with the pass to Godwin just going past is outstretched hands.

After what you could consider a slow start for Winston, albeit with just three passes, he got on a roll in the first session of red zone drills. This is where he and Evans really got it going.

He hit him over the middle for a touchdown on the first play, putting enough just in between two defenders on a very nice throw. On the next play, Evans ran a shorter route over the middle that Winston put in the right spot so that he could continue running without having to stop.

The next pass though was an interception for Kentrell Brice, and he was the only player in the vicinity. At the time it looked to be some miscommunication with Howard as he stopped his route, and coach Arians later confirmed that Howard made a mistake and should have continued to running.

The following 11-on-11 saw Winston throw one pass, which was a 10-yard completion to Godwin, and he then moved on to another goal line drill. It was this time again that Winston and Evans teamed up again to make some plays. After a close call on a fade pass to the back of the left end zone that the ref called out of bounds, he went back to his top guy on a similar play to the right side, where Evans made a spectacular one-handed catch for the touchdown. That was their second touchdown together and his final pass of the day. It was the only touchdown passes that he threw.

In a practice that was just an hour and a half long, Winston and Evans looked to already be in mid-season form. Their next test will come against a different opponent, rather than continuing to battle against some of their own corners.
