The end of an era is upon us.
The Giants announced on Tuesday that rookie Daniel Jones will start in place of veteran Eli Manning on Sunday against the Buccaneers in Tampa.
HC Pat Shurmur informed Eli Manning this morning of his decision to go with Daniel Jones."Eli was obviously disappointed, as you would expect, but he said he would be what he has always been, a good teammate, and continue to prepare to help this team win games,” Shurmur said.

Manning has been a starter and mainstay for the Giants since he was drafted in 2004. Over his 16-year career the former Ole’ Miss standout has passed for 56,537 yards and led New York to two Super Bowl wins.
Jones was a somewhat surprise sixth-overall pick in this past April’s NFL Draft but performed well in the preseason and most felt it was only a matter of time before Jones took over under center in New York. With the Giants sitting at 0-2 on the season, the coaching staff felt it was time to make a move.
“Eli and I spoke this morning,” head coach Pat Shurmur told the Giants website on Tuesday. “I told him that we are making a change and going with Daniel as the starter. I also talked to Daniel. Eli was obviously disappointed, as you would expect, but he said he would be what he has always been, a good teammate, and continue to prepare to help this team win games. Daniel understands the challenge at hand, and he will be ready to play on Sunday.”
