The Buccaneers had one of the biggest wins in recent team history on Sunday, upsetting the previously undefeated Rams in Los Angeles, 55-40, to improve to 2-2 on the year. But that win didn’t come without a cost.

Tampa Bay second-year linebacker Jack Cichy suffered a dislocated elbow after being tackled on kickoff coverage by Rams running back Malcolm Brown. The hit was excessive and Brown was penalized, but only for holding – not unnecessary roughness. Brown should get fined by the league office for this questionable play, which was unnecessary in nature.

PewterReport.com has learned that the injury is not season-ending, but it looked pretty gruesome when it happened.

Cichy took to Twitter on Monday morning to let Bucs fans know that he will be okay and return to action this season. Cichy is expected to miss Sunday’s game in New Orleans and perhaps several more games.

The Bucs drafted Cichy in the sixth round in 2018 after he missed his junior season at Wisconsin after suffering a torn ACL. Cichy played in six games last year as a rookie, mostly on special teams, before tearing his other ACL in Week 6 against Cleveland. Cichy rehabbed hard during the offseason and was cleared to participate by training camp.

Cichy starred in the preseason, leading Tampa Bay with 13 tackles, in addition to two QB hits, one sack, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed. This season prior to his injury, Cichy had one tackle on defense.

The temporary loss of Cichy and the fact that Devin White has missed the last two and half games due to a knee sprain leaves Tampa Bay thin at inside linebacker. Veteran Kevin Minter has started at MIKE linebacker in place of White alongside MO linebacker Lavonte David. The only other healthy inside linebacker on the roster is Deone Bucannon, who is mostly a special teams player, although he did play four snaps on defense in Sunday’s win.

Outside linebacker Devante Bond cross-trained at inside linebacker during camp and could add depth their, too. Don’t be surprised if he spends the week practicing at inside linebacker for this week’s game at New Orleans.

The Bucs likely won’t put Cichy on injured reserve, but they will need to make a move this week as the team welcomes back cornerback and special teams ace Ryan Smith, who is eligible to return to the team on Monday after serving a four-game suspension for PED (performance-enhancing drug) usage. A roster move is necessary to activate Smith to the 53-man roster.

Rookie cornerback Carlton Davis was also shaken up after making a special teams tackle in the fourth quarter, but sources tell PewterReport.com he is fine and is expected to play on Sunday in New Orleans.
