Latest Bucs Headlines

In a game where the Bucs out-gained the Titans by 143 yards and had a franchise record broken by Mike Evans, costly turnovers at inopportune times and mental errors caused the Bucs to lose by a final score of 27-23.

Here is a list of the most impressive players from the Bucs loss.

WR Mike Evans
Evans broke the Bucs’ franchise record for career receptions with 431 in what was a  dominant game by the best receiver in team history. Evans said he was going to play better after the London game and he absolutely did play better with a great bounce back game. Evans put the team on his back, specifically during the Bucs’ touchdown drive at the end of the second quarter, where he was responsible for all 75 of the Bucs’ yards en route to his first touchdown reception. This included a terrific catch on a jump ball for 46 yards that put Tampa Bay in the red zone. Evans got it going early in the second half and broke the Bucs’ franchise receptions record on his second touchdown catch. The deep ball game was working very well for Evans, who ended the day with 11 catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

OLB Jason Pierre-Paul
It took literally two snaps of the football for Pierre-Paul to notch a sack in his return from a fractured vertebrae in his neck. The Bucs’ pass rush was more threatening than it was over the last couple of weeks and that had to do with Pierre-Paul’s addition into the lineup. Pierre-Paul’s leadership presence was felt as well, as he was seen pumping up his teammates and giving a speech on the sidelines when the Bucs were down 14-3. Pierre-Paul had three tackles and one sack with all three of his tackles coming as a tackle for a loss.

ILB Lavonte David
David brought the energy to the Bucs defense. He made some big stops in the beginning of the game, which included tackling Derrick Henry for a loss and later squaring up a hit on Jonnu Smith that lodged the ball loose for an incomplete pass. David had a big presence in holding the Titans to just 246 yards on offense, providing relentless effort to make stops. David led the Bucs with 12 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

S Andrew Adams
The free safety position had been an issue for the Bucs in recent weeks but Adams had a solid performance in his second week as the starter. His forced fumble on Derrick Henry in the third quarter swung the momentum back to the Bucs that directly led to a score that gave Tampa Bay a 23-17 lead at the time. Adams ended up with five tackles, one pass breakup and a forced fumble in the game.

OLB Shaq Barrett
Barrett was expected to benefit the most from the return of Jason Pierre-Paul and he took advantage of it. Barrett was explosive off the edge with some well timed pass rushes, which helped lead to a sack and a forced fumble on Ryan Tannehill. It was Barrett’s first sack since Week 4 at Los Angeles, and he had important contributions in the run game as well. The Bucs pass rush improved on Sunday and it started with the duo of Barrett and Pierre-Paul. Barrett recorded four solo tackles in the game with two tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble.
