Bucs’ outside linebacker Shaq Barrett broke the Bucs’ franchise single season sack record when he notched sack number 17.5 of the season against the Falcons on Sunday. Barrett surpassed Hall Of Famer Warren Sapp’s previous record of 16.5, which he recorded in 2000.

The record breaking achievement happened in the second quarter when Barrett sacked Matt Ryan on first down. At 17.5 sacks, Barrett is second in the NFL in that category on the season along with this new franchise record. 

Barrett signed a one year prove it deal with the Bucs last offseason to have a better playing opportunity and instantly shot up the ranks as one of the top defensive players in the league. Barret, who just made his first career Pro Bowl, is also in the running for Defensive Player Of The Year. 

In one season, Barrett has cemented himself in the Bucs history books. For the season, Barrett has 51 tackles, 17.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, one interception and six forced fumbles.
