With their seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Bucs have selected Temple linebacker Chapelle Russell.
After tearing his right ACL in both 2016 and 2017, limiting him to just 11 total games over the two seasons, Russell was named Temple’s Male Comeback Player of the Year in 2018 with five tackles for loss and five fumbles recovered, which led the nation.
In 2019, Russell totaled 72 tackles and nine tackles for loss. While smaller in stature, Russell brings speed and athleticism to the position, potentially providing him a chance to be a useful weapon on special teams early for Tampa Bay.
Russell’s Defensive Stats
2016: 25 Tackles, 2 TFL, 1 Sack, 2 PD, 1 FF, 1 FR
2017: 70 Tackles, 3.5 TFL, .5 Sacks, 1 PD, 2 FF
2018: 70 Tackles, 5 TFL, 1.5 Sacks, 3 PD, 5 FR
2019: 72 Tackles, 9 TFL, 3 PD
