The union had previously been offered two preseason games by the league, with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reporting Monday morning that the NFL was now proposing just one preseason game to the players. As both sides worked things out during the day, that offer apparently dropped to zero games of exhibition action.

The elimination of preseason games, which now appears almost certain, is just one of several big steps in the direction of a return to play between the players’ union and the league on Monday. The breakthrough in negotiations come just in time, as Monday the Chiefs and Texans’ rookies became the first players to report to their team facilities since the COVID-19 crisis began several months ago.
