When the Buccaneers drafted offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs in the first round last April, the writing was on the wall for long-time, mainstay right tackle, Demar Dotson.
The former undrafted free agent-turned-starter in Tampa Bay was a man without a team this offseason –until now.

Dotson agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos on a one-year deal, pending a physical and COVID-19 testing PewterReport.com can confirm. Salary terms have not been revealed.
The Broncos had a desperate need for offensive line help after starter Ja’Wuan James opted out last week due to COVID concerns. Elijah Wilkinson was projected to start in James’ absence, but Dotson should be expected to supplant him if he can pick up the offensive scheme quickly.
Dotson’s career in Tampa Bay began in 2009 with nothing more than the promise of a tryout. The former college basketball player arrived without a pair of cleats and the team didn’t have any size 18 shoes that would fit him. So after cutting out the toes of the largest size pair the team had, Dotson eventually finished his practices in just the tennis shoes he wore to Tampa.
The Louisiana native turned that tryout into an 11-year career with the Buccaneers, becoming a fan – and media – favorite.
Earlier this year Dotson spoke to PewterReport.com about his career and what the future might hold.

“I’ve been blessed,” Dotson said. “I think I can still play and would if it is the right situation. Maybe as camp gets closer. Maybe even after camp, then a team will need me. But like I said, I am 100 percent content to walk away and head into retirement if that is what the plan is. I never thought I’d be an NFL player, much less have an 11-year career.”
