If you look at the Bucs pass rush this season, you’ll see that their 12 sacks through three games puts them in a tie for third in the NFL. Jason Pierre-Paul’s three sacks also ties him for third highest individually in sack total, trailing Aldon Smith by one sack.

The Bucs’ pass rush has antagonized opposing quarterbacks over the last two weeks, recording 11 sacks. If you ask Pierre-Paul what he thinks of the Bucs’ pass rush so far, though, he’s not impressed.

“I feel as if we’re still trying to figure it out,” Pierre-Paul said. “We’re still trying to figure out how we can get in sync with each other. I don’t think we’re fully synced yet, I think we’re still getting there from a rushing point. As far as running the ball, I think we do a great job at that part, but pass rushing we’re trying to still figure it out. I can only imagine once we do figure it out how awesome that’s going to be.”

Pierre-Paul’s sack in Denver was quite an emphatic one. With Broncos’ tight end Noah Fant attempting to block him, Pierre-Paul used brute strength to knock Fant into quarterback Brett Rypien, causing a fumble on the play. The effort was great, but Pierre-Paul was just trying to let off some steam.

“I just drove right into the quarterback because I got tired of the holding and the frustration. The offensive tackle (Garrett Bolles) was holding me mostly the whole game and I just found my opportunity to push the tight end before the offensive tackle got there to come help out.”

The statistics say that Pierre-Paul leads the way with his three sacks, but it’s been a collective effort by the whole Bucs defense to get to the quarterback. Shaq Barrett, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Ndamukong Suh all have two sacks, while Will Gholston, Jordan Whitehead and Vita Vea are on the board as well. Contributions are coming from everywhere.

“We’re just good,” Pierre-Paul said. “We’re building chemistry on the team. It’s just getting great chemistry right now. I’m looking forward to this week, each week is different and the defense is pumped up each and every week. We’re ready to get out there.”
