Injuries, penalties and missed opportunities were just a number of the defining factors in the Bucs’ 20-19 loss at the hands of the Bears in Chicago on Thursday night.
Bruce Arians spoke to the media following the Bucs’ loss, moving them to 3-2 on the season. Read the full transcript below.
(On their lack of red zone success tonight)
“Just pretty poor execution. We got down there and we had a sack, three penalties… you’re not going to beat anyone with 12 penalties or however many we had. Especially when we were down there once and ended up punting because we had six seven penalties on one drive. I didn’t have our team ready to play, it was obvious.”
(On whether Brady knew it was fourth down on the Bucs’ finals drive)
“Yeah, he knew. He knew.”
(On the penalties)
“Just poor coaching, poor coaching.”
(On if he has an update to Vita Vea’s injury)
“No, no I do not.”
(On only taking 16 seconds off of the clock on a drive in the fourth quarter)
“They had all of their time outs so we had to make two first downs. We make a poor play on first down and then we throw two incompletes so we obviously only made them use one of their time outs and it was just poor football.”
(On Ronald Jones)
“RoJo’s had a good season and he’s going to continue to get better.”
(On the offensive line, Khalil Mack)
“We did a poor job of blocking [Mack] a couple of times. One was a miscommunication but yeah, we did not block [Mack] very well.”
(On how injuries impacted the offense)
“None. That’s excuses. Everybody in there can play football, so just make plays.”
(On the officiating)
(On if the pass protection was overwhelmed)
“Yes and no. [Chicago] has a heck of a pass rush and we knew it, we tried to help them a little bit but they’ve got to do a better job.”
(On how this longer week will help get guys healthy)
“We need to healthy, that’s for sure. We’ll take the break and get back to work for the next one but I feel like we left this stadium with a fourth quarter lead and didn’t maintain it.”
(On his message to the team after the game)
“We’ll see who we are next week. This was one game where I felt like we got outcoached and outplayed, so we’ll find out next week.”
(On if Vita Vea is forced to miss time)
“It’s a big loss. You don’t have another Vita, that’s for sure, but other guys will step in and step up and play good.”
