Ever since it was announced that he would become eligible after Week 8 to sign with a team, the rumors have been flying about Antonio Brown landing with the Bucs. Now it has the potential to come to fruition.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter as well as Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle have reported that free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown is set to visit the Bucs on Sunday along with the Seattle Seahawks.

There’s no question that Brown is one of the most talented receivers to play the game. He is a four-time first team All-Pro, seven-time pro bowler, and made the 2010 all-decade team. Brown has twice led the league in receiving yards and receptions, while also leading the NFL in touchdowns in 2018 on the way to a career stat line of 841 catches, 11,263 yards and 75 touchdowns.

Brown has had a tumultuous run over the past two years in the NFL that were mostly self-inflicted. It has given him a reputation as a player that can cause many unwanted distractions in the locker room.

Brown forced his way off of the Pittsburgh Steelers with a trade, then caused even more issues after signing a lucrative contract with the Raiders that led to his release before the start of last season. His next move was signing with the New England Patriots where he played one game with Tom Brady in Week 2 of 2019, making four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.

A week later the Patriots cut him and then Brown was a subject of an investigation from the NFL for two sexual assault accusations along with a battery and burglary arrest.

The NFL suspended Brown for the first eight weeks of the season, which bring us up to speed to this report.

There’s been a well-documented friendship between Brown and Bucs’ quarterback Tom Brady stemming from the brief time they were teammates together in New England before Brown’s release.

When Brady came to Tampa, it was the thought that he would lobby to bring his friend to Tampa Bay, but Bruce Arians quickly put the lid in on that back in March, saying he would not be a good fit here.

Whatever it took to have a change of heart, Brown would add to a stacked receiving unit in Tampa Bay. The Bucs already have pro bowl wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, along with Scotty Miller, who’s speed has turned him into a downfield threat.

With that said, Evans and Godwin have both been bothered by hamstring injuries this season while Miller has had to deal with hip and groin injuries of his own. Adding a player of Brown’s caliber of talent would be an enormous addition to the depth on the roster that is very rare to find at this point of the season should he decide to sign with the Bucs.

Pewter Report will continue to update the situation as it unfolds.
