Sixth-year Bucs offensive guard Ali Marpet is in the midst of a career year, and a big reason why is his improved health. On Friday, head coach Bruce Arians revealed that Marpet had offseason surgery to repair a hip labrum.

“He’s having an outstanding year,” Arians said. “I think the surgery (on his hip labrum) in the offseason helped him, but he’s playing at a very very high level, very consistent, very physical. You really can’t ask much more especially as a leader of the group.”

Marpet is currently Pro Football Focus’ third-ranked guard in the NFL, allowing just five pressures and zero sacks all season. With a strong second half of the 2020 campaign, Marpet will hope to earn the first Pro Bowl nod of his career.

The Bucs travel to New York to take on the Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
