Tampa Bay Bucs kicker Ryan Succop has been named the NFC’s Special Teams Player Of The Week after a big performance on Monday Night Football.
Succop hit four field goals from 37, 40, 43 and 38 yards out along with one extra point in the Bucs’ 25-23 over the Giants. It’s the sixth time that Succop has won these honors and the first time he’s won it in the NFC.
Succop was brought in at the end of training after the kicking competition between Matt Gay and Elliott Fry saw both kickers have their troubles. After signing with the Bucs, Succop was named their kicker merely days later.
Through eight weeks on the season Succop has been exactly what Tampa Bay has needed from the position – consistency. He’s made 15 of 17 field goal attempts with one of them coming from a block, as well going 26 for 27 on extra points.
Known to be reliable from under 50-yards and in, Succop did hit a field goal from 50 for his longest field goal of the year in a win over the Packers in Week 6.
