After suffering a broken pinky in the Bucs’ Week 14 match-up against the Minnesota Vikings, running back Ronald Jones II underwent surgery to repair the finger last Tuesday. On Wednesday, one day after undergoing surgery, Jones was placed on the league’s reserve/COVID-19 list and forced to miss Tampa Bay’s Week 15 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

“[Jones] is going to be doubtful,” Arians said about Jones’ status for Week 16. “Getting through the COVID and not having any practice with the finger, we still haven’t been able to see him with the finger so we’ll have to wait and see on that one.”

A player placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to a “high risk” contact with someone who has tested positive must quarantine for a minimum of five days, while players who test positive may require up to a 10-day quarantine. It is still unclear whether or not Jones had a positive test but the third-year back is still dealing with the finger injury and has yet to return to practice.

With Jones set to potentially miss his second consecutive game, Leonard Fournette would likely start in his place against Detroit on Saturday. Against Atlanta, Fournette posted 49 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts while the Bucs as a team totaled 51 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
