On the dawn of rookie mini-camp, the Bucs are bringing in five players for tryouts as the team seeks to bring its’ roster to 90 players. There is one familiar face amidst the group, as WR Amara Darboh, CB Antonio Hamilton, S Curtis Riley, TE Jerell Adams and RB Troymaine Pope will attempt to crack the roster, per The Athletic’s Greg Auman.

For Darboh this will be his fourth effort to make a team in three seasons, and second chance to make the Bucs. Darboh joined the Bucs practice squad in 2019, before being briefly elevated to the active roster a month later. The stint didn’t last long, as Darboh was released shortly after. A former third round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, Darboh has managed just eight catches for 71 yards in his career.

Unlike Darboh, Hamilton has played in every game over the past two seasons. In 2019 Hamilton played a handful of defensive snaps for the Giants, starting two games and serving on special teams. The sixth-year pro repeated that workload with the Chiefs in 2020, recording five pass breakups over the past two years.

Riley joins Hamilton as players at tryouts with the best chance to make the roster. The former Fresno State safety bounced around three team’s practice squads a year ago, but was a 16-game starter for the Giants in 2018. Riley spent 2019 with the Raiders, starting three games and contributing heavily on special teams. The sixth-year pro has five career interceptions and eight pass breakups.

The Bucs needed to add a young running back to the rotation for camp/preseason purposes, and Pope will have an opportunity to earn that role over the next couple days. Pope bounced around six teams in five years, including three stints in Seattle. Last year was the most productive season in Pope’s career, rushing 15 times for 76 yards while catching eight passes for 42 yards with the Chargers.

A former Giants’ sixth round pick, Adams has appeared in one game since 2017, playing five special teams snaps in 2019. Adams has 24 catches for 214 yards and one touchdown in his five-year career.

Rookie mini-camp will take place over Friday and Saturday afternoons, with practice beginning around 1:20 pm.
