Here are some of the best Bucs quotes following their the team’s training camp practice on Tuesday, July 27 at the AdventHealth Training Center.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on the final period of practice:

“I was not pleased that the defense gave up that fourth down in that two-minute drill. I was happy the offense got it, but defense, we came back and won the next one, actually won the next two. I’m going to be pissed if one side wins all day; it’s never good. That’s why I thought it was a really good practice. We went inside to simulate halftime. When this thing gets this hot, cool them down. We talked a lot about the second half of practice – let’s give them what looks like a halftime. Take seven minutes and give them [a break].”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on who has stood out on defense:

“It’s more like who hasn’t? Everybody in the starting group looks more than ready to play. That second field has been executing better than the first field, so we should be good in depth, getting all those reps. This should be the last day we’ll do two fields. They’ve got a ton, a ton of reps and got some exposure and I was very pleased with where they were.”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on managing the workloads of players:

“We judge it with all the barometers and everything we have before we get started, with sport science. Today was already geared up to be half a practice on two fields, go inside, come out on one field. Tomorrow it will be one field from here on out.”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on the offside penalties in one period:

“We cannot have pre-snap penalties. Since Chicago we kind of put that to bed and it cannot raise its head again. Some of the young guys I see, that’s okay. But when I see Tristan do it, he’s getting his a** chewed out.”

Bucs safety Mike Edwards on how the secondary can be more consistent:

“Just keep working. Keep building each other up. Keep going day-by-day. Not looking forward to the next day but taking it one day at a time. Keeping each other humble and keep working. I mean we come out here working like I said with limited guys and we’re still putting in work. Building the playbook and getting the playbook in our mental right. I feel like we’re doing a very good job on our secondary.

Bucs offensive lineman Robert Hainsey on the toughest part of the transition from tackle to center:

“Right now, its staying dry for the quarterbacks, but I’d say for me the biggest difference is moving in and out of my stance and having a parallel stance. Especially coming from tackle, you’re used to a pretty large stagger whichever way you need to go, so that’s the biggest thing for me.”

Bucs cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting how the secondary can get better to start this upcoming season:

“Just starting off fast you know – not buying into the hype of what everything is. Forgetting everything that happened last year and the year previous because it is an entire new season. And going in, I mean that’s what our mindset is – all of us are unknown guys trying to make a name for ourselves. All of us are trying to get to that second contract, that big payday and so it starts on the practice field. It starts when you come in and prepare each and every day whether it’s the film, whether it’s the preparation, whether it’s taking care of your body. Just knowing how to be a pro, and I say that every single year. Learning how to be a veteran and learning how to be a pro goes a long way.”

Bucs cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on if the secondary believes they are still ‘unknown guys’:

“I mean that’s the mindset that I have. That’s the mindset that all of us have. That’s the mindset that you should have. I mean we have big name guys on our team, no need to add into that mix. Just establish who we want to establish as ourselves and continue to grow in that aspect. I don’t look at myself as being the guy who caught three interceptions in the playoffs. I look at myself as the guy that is just ready to work everyday. I’m an underdog, I’ve been an underdog my whole life, I’ve been overlooked my entire life. I’m not going to act like I’m a champion in that aspect, but the work ethic and everything like that will still stay high.”

Bucs nose tackle Vita Vea on the whole team re-signing and wanting to be together again:

“When we ended our last game last year in the Super Bowl I think we got a glimpse of how good we can be. I think it’s just a challenge for us to see how well we can do it as a unit, a defense. It’s not going to be the same as last year obviously. We have to start over, but it’s exciting to see where we can take it.”
