Here are some of the best Bucs quotes following their the team’s training camp practice on Wednesday, July 27 at the AdventHealth Training Center.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on resting veteran players:

“Yeah, I mean when you have guys 30, 32 – or 43 – you’ve got to manage it for them and help them. For us right now it’s not how important it is right now, it’s getting them to those games healthy and fresh. So yeah, the NBA coined the term ‘load management.’ I always just said ‘day off.’ It is I think a very smart thing for those guys who hit that certain age and experience. It might be a repetition day of something that’s already in. They don’t really need it.”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on if he’s noticed any hint of complacency:

“No, I haven’t seen any at all. It’s great competition. You’ve got a really good offense and a defense that thinks they’re as good or better and they’re out there trying to prove it every single snap. And I really love the work I’m seeing in special teams. There’s a lot of competition, boy, a lot of competition on this team for jobs and I don’t see any complacency whatsoever.”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on QB Tom Brady loosening up in Tampa:

“Yeah, I think Tom’s very, very comfortable in our locker room and with our coaches and our fans. I think that personality is showing more and more. We love seeing it. I told him driving in today, ‘Put your coaching hat on. This is a coaching day for you.’ When he can sit back and watch, he sees a lot of things that he doesn’t see playing and can coach those other guys up. It’s a win-win situation.”

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on how the rookies have been eager to learn:

“Oh there’s no doubt, and it’s showing up on the field. I put that mental error and penalty sheet up every single day and the defense on Field Two had I think five yesterday. That’s unheard-of for rookies. They outdid Field One every single day as far as being sharp and accountable and knowing what they’re doing. They’re putting their time in and it’s showing up on film.”

Bucs defensive tackle Khalil Davis on where he has taken the biggest steps this year:

“That first year was pretty much a redshirt [season]. The coaches let me know. You rarely don’t get that in the NFL. They told me that I need to work on the things that I wasn’t good at last year and that’s really all I’ve been doing this camp. Showing off that I made those strides to work on those things and so far I’ve been doing a pretty good job with that.”

Bucs defensive tackle Khalil Davis on looking forward to preseason games:

“I’m very excited about those preseason games. I wish I could have gotten those last year. I felt like it really would have helped me, but I’m really excited for those games. Just to be able to show what I could do before the season starts so it can give the coaches something to look at or get feedback back from. I’m really excited for those games.”

Bucs linebacker Devin White on the defense’s mindset heading into the season:

“As far as us as a defense – as a collective – I think we are really emphasizing situational football. There’s a lot of things we did well last year, you know we got better as the year went on – but there were still some areas that we wish to improve in as far as two-minute situations, closing out halves, closing out games and redzone situations – knowing where our help is, and just being a better overall defensive unit. But I think we are taking the initiative and putting in the work to get that job done.”

Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski on his mindset coming off of a championship season:

“I mean coming off a championship season, that’s huge. It’s definitely a different vibe because you have to leave that in the past. You’ve got to learn how to leave that in the past. Yes, it was great to celebrate and all – we had our time to celebrate, but that’s in the past – it’s a whole new season now. So, you’ve got to find ways to just put it in the back our your mind to just throw it back there.”

“This is a whole new season – we have a target on our back. We’ve got to find ways to get better, find ways to improve, I’ve got to find ways to go out there and be consistent on a daily basis. You’ve just got to keep finding ways to step up your game because you have a target on your back as a whole and you’ve just got to keep improving. You can’t have any setbacks thinking, “Great, that’s all in the past.”

Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski on the advice he would give to his teammates about moving on from last season’s success:

“I would say find a way to push yourself to another level of whatever aspect you feel like you need to work on in order to take your game to another level. So, if it’s getting in better conditioning – learn how to take that conditioning to another level to push yourself. If it’s becoming a better blocker or learning the playbook in more detail, then its that. It’s just pushing yourself to another level that isn’t that big of a strong suit.”
