It’s been a tough week for the Bucs wide receiver corps, which was hit by another injury on Sunday. Tampa Bay lost WR Jaydon Mickens to a hip injury in Week 2, and receivers Antonio Brown and Travis Jonsen to the COVID list last week. Now, speedy pass catcher Scotty Miller is suffering from “severe” turf toe. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the injury could cause Miller to miss an extended amount of time. The third-year pro will likely move to injured reserve soon.

It’s been a quiet 2021 season for Miller, who made his first two catches of the year in Sunday’s 34-24 loss to the Rams. Miller caught just two passes for 11 yards, getting edged in snaps by Tyler Johnson. It became clear late in camp that Johnson was overtaking Miller for the WR4 role. Miller’s speed is still a factor, but it hasn’t been utilized by the Bucs at all this season.

The loss of Miller should mean an increase in playing time for rookie Jaelon Darden. The speedy receiver made his NFL debut on Sunday, catching one pass for no gain. Darden also handled kick and punt return duties in Mickens’ absence.

Tampa Bay returns to action in Week 4 when they travel to New England to take on the 1-2 Patriots.
