A surprise injury emerged on Wednesday, as Bucs WR Chris Godwin sat out practice. Head coach Bruce Arians revealed to the media that Godwin is dealing with a foot injury. His status is uncertain for Week 10 against the Washington Football Team.
“We’ll have to wait and see,” Arians said when asked if Godwin would be available for Sunday’s game.
With Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski already likely to miss Week 10, losing Godwin would be a huge blow for the Bucs. The fifth-year receiver is the team’s leading pass catcher with 50 catches for 660 yards and four touchdowns. Also, Godwin is critical to the Bucs offensive success given his ability to impact every snap. He’s one of the league’s best receivers after the catch, and he’s a threat at all three levels of the field.
Plan B: Breshad Perriman
If Godwin doesn’t play on Sunday, the Bucs will have to activate Plan B. The team signed Breshad Perriman yesterday, who had a great run with the Bucs in 2019 when Godwin was out. Arians said on Wednesday that Perriman knows the offense well enough that he could play against Washington if necessary.
Breshad Perriman's career has been wild.

Perriman would likely serve as the team’s third or fourth receiver in Week 10. Some of that depends on how ready Scotty Miller is. The diminutive speedster is working his way back from injured reserve in practice this week. Miller’s ability to stretch the field would help, but it’s still too early to say if he’ll be able to play. The third-year receiver is dealing with turf toe suffered in Week 3.
Tyler Johnson would likely step into Godwin’s role on Sunday. If Brown, Godwin and Miller are out, Perriman could play a decent amount. The Bucs will also rely on rookie Jaelon Darden, whose offensive role has been limited. Cyril Grayson and Jaydon Mickens have both been elevated twice from the practice squad. If they are moved up again, they would be promotions to the active roster. Unfortunately, someone would need to be cut to bring one of those two up from the practice squad.
Tampa Bay returns to action against Washington on Sunday at 1pm.
