Keeping their undefeated streak at home alive, the Bucs held on to beat the Bills 33-27 in overtime. Tom Brady’s domination of the Bills continued, moving his record to 33-3 all-time against Buffalo. Starting with the ball, an errant snap put the Bucs in an early hole that led to a punt to begin the game. The defense came out strong all over Josh Allen, forcing a punt of their own. Not letting the error on the first drive derail them, Fournette burst through a hole for a 47-yard touchdown run to give Tampa an early lead. More pressure from Shaq Barrett and the defense smothered the Bills offense forcing yet another punt.
On the Bucs next drive, Brady picked apart Buffalo’s defense, including two first down scrambles. But the Bucs offense had to settle for a field goal in the red zone. Three big pass plays helped the Bills move into Bucs territory, but a strong goal line stand forced a field goal from the two-yard line. Big plays by Godwin and Rob Gronkowski moved the chains, and Evans finished it off with a terrific leaping touchdown grab from 13-yards out.
Another sack by the defense put the Bills offense in a 3rd-and-long situation, resulting in a punt. On a drive before the half that saw Evans make a nice sideline catch, Brady pounded it in on a QB sneak to give the Bucs a 24-3 lead. Trying to score points before the half, Richard Sherman intercepted Josh Allen. Set up at the Bills 45- yard line, the Bucs couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and punted. Buffalo was also forced to punt, going into the half down 24-3.
Bucs Come Out Flat
Pat O’Connor sniffed out a fake punt for a loss of three yards on 4th down to open the third quarter. That looked like it could be the ball game, but the Bucs offense couldn’t get any points. From 42 yards away from the end zone, Tampa Bay went four-and-out.
Finally putting together a drive, the Bills went 81 yards down the field to score on a Josh Allen 18-yard run. Misses to Gronk and Godwin stalled out the Bucs ensuing drive, forcing their third punt of the game. After five plays, the Tampa defense would force a punt of their own. On the Bucs next possession, the offense stepped on the gas driving all the way down to the six-yard line. Unable to punch it in, Ryan Succop knocked in a chip shot field goal to extend their lead to 27-10.
Marching 75 yards down the field on just five plays, Allen found Dawson Knox from 15 yards out to bring the score within 10. The Bills defense brought the pressure on Brady and the Bucs went three-and out. Tampa’s defense was unable to get off the field as they watched Buffalo move the ball with ease. Allen found Gabriel Davis on a four-yard touchdown bringing the Bucs lead to just three points.
On a critical drive, the Bucs couldn’t convert on third down, allowing the Bills to sack Brady with just over three minutes remaining. Tampa’s defense couldn’t come up with a stop when they needed it most, and allowed the Bills to tie up the game at 27 with just 22 seconds left.
Tampa WINS In Overtime
Buffalo won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball first in overtime. The Bucs finally were able to come up with a stop, giving the offense a chance to win the game. Things would continue to fall out of the Bucs favor, as a booming 63-yard punt gave the offense the ball at their 6-yard line. Brady led the offense on a six-play drive, including a close third down conversion by Fournette. The win came at the unlikely hands of Breshad Perriman, who caught a short pass over the middle and turned it upfield for the 58-yard game-winning score. The reception was Perriman’s first of the game and Brady’s 700th touchdown pass. The Bucs improved to 10-3, while the Bills fell to 7-6.
