Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has a huge task ahead of him on Sunday. Slow down Jalen Hurts and the Eagles rushing attack, or get bounced from the playoffs early. The Bucs defense hasn’t lived up to expectations this year, but injuries have played a part in their struggles. As it stands, Bowles reputation around the league remains strong. On Saturday, the Vikings became the third team to request an interview with Bowles for their head coaching vacancy.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Wilf family that owns the Vikings are from Elizabeth, New Jersey, Bowles’ hometown. The Bucs defensive shot-caller is looking for his second head-coaching opportunity at 58 years old. Bowles went 26-41 as head coach of the Jets for four years. The Bucs defense has improved immensely under Bowles’ watch, finishing as the fifth-ranked unit in points allowed per game this season. Bowles has also interviewed with the Bears and Jaguars.
There will be some competition on the field when the Bucs host the Eagles on Sunday. Reportedly, the Vikings have also requested an interview with Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. The first-year DC has a chance to move his name up the board with a strong showing against Tom Brady and co. in the Wild Card round.
