Latest Bucs Headlines

On the heels of an impressive game, it was a bit shocking to see Bucs outside linebacker Cam Gill in a walking boot and using a scooter to get around at Monday’s practice. Head Coach Todd Bowles informed the media on Monday that Gill had suffered a Lisfranc injury in Saturday’s loss to the Dolphins. But he didn’t have much more detail beyond that. Though Tuesday afternoon Gill announced on his Twitter that he had undergone successful surgery on his injured foot.

The surgery almost guarantees a stint on injured reserve for the backup outside linebacker. It comes with a three to four month recovery period. Whether that comes before final cuts, effectively ending his season, or after, remains unknown. After sustaining a foot injury in training camp last season, Gill was placed on IR. The move happened after final cuts allowing him to return that year. Which he did in Week 5. However, Bowles is unsure if that will be the case this season though.

“Not sure yet, Bowles said. “Hopefully he can but when I get all the details I’ll know.”

In preparation for Gill missing significant time, the Bucs brought in a familiar face to the outside linebacker room. The addition of Carl Nassib not only gives the Bucs depth at the position, but also a veteran presence who knows the system. Though he shouldn’t be counted on to be used heavily, he should still see snaps in the rotation to help give guys a breather and keep them fresh.

Last season Gill played just 100 total snaps on defense totaling 11 tackles and two sacks. Where he really was utilized was on special teams where he played 223 snaps. Nassib played just 101 snaps on teams last year, but totaled 251 snaps on defense.
