Latest Bucs Headlines

Each week after every Bucs game, we’ll take a closer look at the snap count distribution for the Tampa Bay offense and defense. We’ll assess what we can learn from who played the most and least from the game.

Here is a closer view of of which players received the most and least amount of snaps in the Bucs’ 14-12 loss on Sunday against the Packers in Week 3.

Bucs Offense

Bucs Week 3 Offensive Snaps

At wide receiver, the Bucs used a lot of three receiver sets against the Packers. Scotty Miller and Russell Gage had the same amount of snaps with 52 out of a possible 65. Breshad Perriman wasn’t far behind either with 47. These three were the most utilized of the group as Jaelon Darden was on the field for 18 snaps, newly signed Cole Beasley had nine snaps and rookie Kaylon Geiger was on the field on four plays.

Outside of Leonard Fournette, who played 91% of the time, it was tight end Cam Brate that was next closest with 89%. Brate had his best receiving game of the season with five receptions for 52 yards. Much like Fournette, Brate was really the only one of his group to get playing time. Ko Kieft played less of a role then he has so far with 11 snaps and in his first action of the season, Kyle Rudolph had nine.

The Bucs relied heavily again on Fournette as he played 59 snaps. Rachaad White barely saw any time with six snaps and Ke’Shawn Vaughn didn’t get on the field for offense at all. On Monday, Todd Bowles stated that they need to get both running backs more involved.

“We got to play the other two more,” Bowles said. When Lenny plays in a flow, we still got to play the other two more. We went into the game that way. We didn’t have it a lot in the first half but that should still not be a reason to not play the other guys and we’ll make sure it gets done.”

Bucs Defense

Bucs Week 3 Defensive Snaps

There’s not much to change with the Bucs defense as they’ve clearly shown they’re one of the top units in the entire league. With Akiem Hicks out, Rakeem Nunez-Roches played in 35 out of 62 snaps with Will Gholston coming in at 34. Vita Vea led the way on the defensive line, but only by three more snaps. Logan Hall had his most reps yet, getting in on 27 plays. It was also nice to see former USF defensive lineman Deadrin Senat involved for 13 snaps. He recorded two tackles.

Safety Logan Ryan created another turnover in the game, proving his importance to the defense. He accounted for 58% percent of the snaps, which was a little bit of a drop from Week 2. However, he received the fourth-highest amount of snaps by defenders that weren’t on for every play. Something tells me he’ll continue to get a lot snaps.

Tampa Bay kept up with their plan of keeping defensive backs Jamel Dean, Antoine Winfield Jr, Mike Edwards, Carlton Davis and linebackers Lavonte David and Devin White on for every play. They also stuck to their outside linebacker rotation with Shaq Barrett playing the most with 51 snaps followed by Joe Tryon-Shoyinka at 46, Anthony Nelson with 15 and Carl Nassib at 12.

Rounding out the rest of the list, safety Keanu Neal and defensive lineman Pat O’Connor each were on for one play.
