Bucs Dt Logan Hall

With the Bucs traveling to Arizona this week to face the Cardinals, it is not just a contest between two teams. It will also be a matchup of two college teammates as well, with Bucs rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall lining up against Cardinals tackle Josh Jones.

This will be a familiar dogfight for the two, as they battled in the trenches while teammates at Houston in 2018-19. Talking with him after practice, Hall is excited to face Jones on Sunday.

“That’s my guy, first and foremost,” Hall said. “I’m excited to see him again and battle against him like I used to. I’m excited for that.”

Josh Jones is a young player looking to capitalize on more opportunities, very similar to Hall. Jones has climbed up to a starting role as injuries have plagued the Cardinals’ offensive line. Since Week 10, he has been a starter for them and is their highest-graded lineman, per Pro Football Focus.

Hall has yet to truly get a stretch of starting snaps himself, but he has shown potential. In limited snaps this season, he has picked up 2.5 sacks and shown the athleticism to line up anywhere.

Commenting on both Hall and outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka Wednesday, head coach Todd Bowles mentioned that Hall is developing and “coming around the second half of the season.”

On Sunday, Hall will likely get the chance to face off against Jones and hopefully win a couple of reps against him. Back at Houston, he also had to wait his turn to get a chance.

“Every day I played against [Jones]. He was two years older than me, he was kind of the big man on campus, and I’d do scout team and things of that nature. Eventually, I got bumped up when I wasn’t on the practice squad. I played against him and he was always really good, so I’m looking forward to seeing him again.”

Much like in college, he could get bumped up as a starter along the Bucs’ defensive front in the future, as big changes are looming as soon as next season.

But for now, this will be a unique substory to follow. This is the first time they have faced each other since 2019, but they will quickly remind themselves of each other when they get set at the line of scrimmage on Sunday.
