Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans is on a trajectory to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day. Outside of being a Super Bowl champion, his biggest claim to that honor is his NFL record of nine straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards to begin his career.
It’s a record that only Evans holds at the moment, and one that he can extend each year. He may have to continue building up that number to double digit seasons to keep that record for a longer period of time. Considering the NFL moved to a 17-game regular season starting in 2021, and the league might eventually make it an 18-game season down the road, it makes the hitting 1,000 yards more attainable for new players entering the NFL. And a couple of young stars, such as Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson (three seasons) and Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase (two seasons), are already on their way to reach that threshold at the start of their respective careers.
Evans isn’t sweating losing that record, though. Reaching 1,000 yards is a baseline for his capabilities.
“No pressure, no,” Evans said to KCPR 2 Houston reporter Ari Alexander while the Bucs’ four-time Pro Bowler hosted a youth football camp in his hometown of Galveston, Texas for the Mike Evans Family Foundation. “I should be getting 1,000 yards if I’m healthy every year. I want to be one of tops in the league. I want to be winning games. That’s what I care about.”
Could Mike Evans Break Another Record?

There is another historic NFL record coming up that the former Texas A&M Aggie could break if he does maintain his level of greatness. Mike Evans has always shown his appreciation for the history of the game, and he could see his name right next to a record held by who many consider the greatest wide receiver of all time – Jerry Rice.
Going into his 10th campaign with the Bucs, if he can reach 1,000 yards in the next two years to make it 11 in a row, he will tie Rice for the most consecutive 1,000 yards seasons at any point in a career in NFL history. This record has been on his mind.
“I think about it,” Evans said. “It’s right there, so I’m going to definitely try to get that. I’m already one of one right now. I hope I can pass the great Jerry Rice and his record.”
Surpassing any of the many records held by Rice is an accomplishment in itself. But the future Bucs Ring of Honor member and greatest offensive player in team history did acknowledge that it’s probably the only record anyone will come close to breaking. Rice holds the all-time record for career receiving yards with 22,985 and most touchdowns with 197. Both seem untouchable.
“Obviously nobody will pass his records – probably like ever total,” Evans said. “But that 1,000-yard streak record would be cool to have.”
Evans is 45th on the NFL all-time receiving yards list with 10,425 receiving yards. Moving past Rice (22,895 yards) is likely out of reach, though it’s reasonable that he could find himself within the Top 5 or 10 should he continue to play later into his career. Evans’ 81 touchdowns has him 30th all-time and has the second-highest amount of scores among active players behind Las Vegas’ Davante Adams at 87.
He’s very likely to reach the century mark of 100 touchdowns by the end of his career, which would make him tied for ninth with Steve Largent and Tim Brown. Even getting with range of Tony Gonzalez’s 111 touchdowns or Antonio Gates’ 116 TDs seems possible.
Mike Evans Weighs In On Bucs QB Competition

What’s made Mike Evans’ resume so enthralling is that he’s put up Hall of Fame numbers with a variety of quarterbacks. The quarterbacks he’s worked with include Josh McCown, Mike Glennon, Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Brady and a cameo from Blaine Gabbert.
He’ll start a new chapter of his career with a different quarterback throwing to him this season as the Bucs have a quarterback competition between Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield. Evans commented on what he saw from the quarterbacks in practice when he was with them during mini-camp weeks ago.
“Kyle’s improved a lot. I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen from Baker,” Evans said. “Whoever the quarterback will be, I’m positive they’re going to make the right choice and we’re going to win some games.”
Pewter Report had a recent episode of the Pewter Report Podcast where discussed the exceptional career that Evans has had so far and what could be next for him.
