The Bucs received some good news prior to kickoff of Sunday’s Week 6 game against the visiting Detroit Lions.
Pewter Report is reporting that starting outside linebacker Shaq Barrett, who missed Thursday and Friday’s practice with an illness, will play against the Lions.

On Friday, Barrett was listed as questionable for the Lions game, but his status improved as the weekend progressed and he woke up feeling better Sunday morning.

While Shaq Barrett won’t miss Sunday’s game, the same cannot be said for fellow outside linebacker Anthony Nelson. He suffered a concussion during Tampa Bay’s 26-9 win at New Orleans over the Saints, but had been recovering during the bye week. Interestingly enough, Nelson was a full participant in all three practices this week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – but was suddenly downgraded to doubtful on Saturday afternoon.
Team sources tell Pewter Report that Nelson will be a game-time decision prior to kickoff. Should Nelson be inactive, Tampa Bay would likely activate undrafted free agent rookie Markees Watts to replace him on the game day roster.
Reserve Cam Gill would likely receive more playing time opposite YaYa Diaby on Tampa Bay’s second-string outside linebacker unit should Nelson not play.
