When the initial Pro Bowl rosters were announced, the Bucs had just one representative — wide receiver Mike Evans. On Tuesday morning, however, Tampa Bay had another two players named to the Pro Bowl as replacements.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and left tackle Tristan Wirfs will replace Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, respectively.

For Mayfield, it’s his first Pro Bowl selection. It caps off an outstanding season that saw him revive his career on a one-year prove-it deal. He threw for a career-high 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns to 10 interceptions as he led Tampa Bay to a 9-8 record and a first-round playoff win over the Eagles.

Mayfield becomes the sixth quarterback in franchise history to make a Pro Bowl, joining Trent Dilfer (1997), Brad Johnson (2002), Jeff Garcia (2007), Jameis Winston (2015) and Tom Brady (2021).

For Wirfs, this is his third Pro Bowl selection in four seasons. He made it in 2021 and 2022 as a right tackle and now, even after switching to left tackle for the first time in his NFL career, he makes it back to the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando.

Wirfs wasn’t called for a single holding penalty all season and never missed a snap, making the transition to the left side of the line look largely seamless.

Wirfs is the first Buc to make three straight Pro Bowls since Gerald McCoy was named to six straight from 2012-2017. The 2020 first-round pick also joins Mike Alstott as the only Tampa Bay players to make three Pro Bowl in the first four years of his career, plus he ties center Tony Mayberry (1997-99) for the most overall Pro Bowl appearances by a Buccaneer offensive lineman.

Mayfield and Wirfs were initially two of the Bucs four Bucs who were named Pro Bowl alternates in addition to wide receiver Mike Evans being named to the Pro Bowl roster.

Along with announcing Mayfield and Wirfs as Pro Bowl replacements, the Bucs also announced Tuesday that Mike Evans will not participate in Orlando due to injury.

Evans was named to his fifth career Pro Bowl after a phenomenal season in which he caught 79 passes for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns, which tied his own single-season franchise record. It was the fifth season Evans’ career that saw him score double-digit touchdowns, and he has made the Pro Bowl in three of those five seasons.

Mayfield and Evans are both pending free agents who the Bucs would like to re-sign this offseason. Wirfs, meanwhile, will be playing on his fifth-year option in 2024 unless Tampa Bay inks him to a contract extension.
