The Tampa Bay Bucs’ 2024 NFL Draft class was full of seniors with the exception of running back Bucky Irving, but Tampa Bay has used plenty of premium draft picks on underclassmen before. In fact from 2018-2023 every first-round pick by the Bucs has been an underclassman.

Defensive tackle Vita Vea (2018), linebacker Devin White (2019), left tackle Tristan Wirfs (2020), outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (2021) and defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (2023) all passed up their final year of college eligibility to enter the NFL Draft and were selected by Tampa Bay.

This year a total of 67 underclassmen have declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. That’s nearly half the size of the underclassmen class of 130 early entrants in the 2021 NFL Draft. Last year saw a recent low of just 58 players leave college early – largely due to an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19 as well as NIL endorsement money that some top football players receive in college these days.

Will the Bucs draft one – or more – of these underclassmen this year? We’ll find out in late April when the 2025 NFL Draft concludes. But for a team that needs help on defense, the fact that there are a total of 16 defensive tackles and edge rushers helps this year’s draft class. And the five linebackers, five cornerbacks and three safeties that are early entrants bolsters those positions, too.

The 2025 NFL Draft takes place April 24-26. The Bucs have six picks in the draft in every round except for the sixth round.
