The Bucs and Jaguars are having a sense of deja vu.
Coming off of the heels of the Bucs blocking the Jaguars from interviewing offensive line coach Kevin Carberry for a similar position, Tampa Bay is denying Jacksonville once again.
Per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bucs are blocking the Jaguars from interviewing Tampa Bay’s assistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci. Presumably this would have been for their offensive line coaching role.
No favors: Buccaneers blocked Jacksonville’s request to interview its assistant offensive line coach, Brian Picucci, who left Kentucky with Liam Coen to go to Tampa. Jags were able to hire Coen, but not Picucci.

Bucs Shut Down Liam Coen One More Time

This one has to sting a little bit more for Jaguars head coach Liam Coen given his history with Brian Picucci throughout the years. Picucci was the offensive line coach at UMass when Coen played quarterback there from 2004-2008, and later teamed up as coaches at the University of Maine where was the offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017. Picucci eventually followed Coen to Kentucky in 2023 as a quality control coach when Coen was the coordinator, and then they went together to Tampa.
It makes a lot of sense why Liam Coen would want to bring Picucci to Jacksonville, but at the same time, it’s hard to understand why he believes the Bucs would be okay with him taking their coaches, who are still under contract in Tampa Bay. Regardless of how fans view the situation, Tampa Bay’s front office was very unhappy with how Coen handled his departure from the Bucs.
So what incentive does it give the Bucs to help Coen out when they’ve been so important to the advancement of their own offensive line? There’s been a lot of gamesmanship in recent days between the two Florida NFL teams.

For those wondering how the Bucs could deny an interview request for an assistant coach to take a position coaching position, NFL rules state that coaches under contract can only leave if it’s for a promotion to a coordinator position. So unless Coen and the Jaguars want to make Picucci their offensive coordinator, the Bucs have every right to deny the interview.
In their first year in Tampa Bay together, Kevin Carberry and Picucci helped the Bucs’ offensive line reach new heights. Tristan Wirfs completed his All-Pro transition as a left tackle, Ben Bredeson held his own at left guard, rookie Graham Barton showed promise learning a new position, Cody Mauch drastically improved, and Luke Goedeke continued to elevate his game at right tackle. The growth each of the linemen had in the trenches was evident – and a product of really quality coaching.
Pewter Report has closely monitored all of the latest coaching news with the Bucs from their offensive coordinator search to shutting down the Jaguars’ attempts to hire away Tampa Bay’s offensive line coach. In a recent clip on our PewterReportTV YouTube channel we reacted to the news about the Bucs blocking the Jaguars from talking to Carberry. Little did we know that Coen would try to get Picucci next.
