Are the Bucs doubling up on Bucco Bruce in 2025?

The team announced last week that its 2025 creamsicle game will come in a Week 15 Thursday night matchup against the Falcons, but buzz is continuing to build regarding a potential return of the franchise’s original white jerseys, which featured creamsicle orange numbers with a red trim. The Bucs are celebrating their 50th season in 2025, and the return of their original jerseys would be a fitting way to celebrate.

This is something we’ve written about here on PewterReport.com previously, and there’s been speculation about it from fans and uniform aficionados throughout the offseason. On Monday, though, the return of those original uniforms for a game in the 2025 season began to feel more real than ever, as SportsLogos.net reported that the Bucs plan to unveil a second throwback uniform in July.

According to the report, which was attributed to “multiple sources,” these white jerseys with the creamsicle numbers/red trim will be paired with the white Bucco Bruce helmet and white pants that Tampa Bay wears with the creamsicle uniform that made its return in 2023.

There’s perhaps even more of a historic element to these potential secondary throwbacks, as the all-white look is what the Bucs wore every week of their inaugural regular season in 1976. The creamsicle jerseys themselves were limited to the preseason only that year. These white jerseys were also only worn in the 1976 season, as the team wore a different version from 1977 on. That new version featured red numbers and a creamsicle trim, as opposed to it being the other way around.

As previously speculated (and potentially leaked), these white throwbacks will feature a special 50th season patch. SportsLogos.net’s Andrew Lind was on top of this from the jump, as there was a photo shared and then deleted back in February by the logo’s designer, Allan Peters.

Which Game Might The Bucs Break Out A Potential White Throwback?

We could do our own speculation about which game the Bucs may pick to break out these reported white throwback uniforms, but SportsLogo.net’s own speculation is a good place to start.

There’s the potential for one of the best uniform matchups in years if Tampa Bay donned the all-white Bucco Bruce throwbacks for a road game, as the team could do so for its Week 5 game at Seattle. The Seahawks are also celebrating their 50th season in 2025, and they could wear their own beloved throwbacks for that game.

That would play well in the eyes of the uniform gurus out there and the wider NFL audience would love it, right? But the downside to the idea of wearing these uniforms on the road is that the majority of the Buccaneer fan base wouldn’t get to see them with their own eyes at Raymond James Stadium.

That’s why an early-season home game may be the better choice, and SportsLogos.net’s Andrew Lind followed up on something widely speculated about last week. When the Bucs announced the themes for their 2025 home games, it featured the usual themes, like Crucial Catch for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Salute to Service in November, the Ring of Honor game in November, She Is Football in December and later the creamsicle game in Week 15.

But there’s been some talk about the theme for the Bucs’ home opener in Week 3, which simply says “50th Season.” Now, this could just be the official start of the team celebrating its 50th season in front of the home fans, with some planned festivities for that game against the Jets. Or it could mean more.

That game could make perfect sense for a white throwback, as it fits with the announced theme, for one. But it’s also spaced far enough out from the creamsicle game in mid-December, plus the Bucs typically like to wear white at home for early-season day games. Perhaps for this game, though, it’s a different kind of white jersey than the standard modern-era white jersey.

The calendar just turned to July, and with training camp only weeks away, we may officially be on white throwback uniform announcement watch. Someone else will have to come up with a catchier name.
