The Bucs got some welcomed news on the injury front on Thursday as the team returned to practice in advance of their big game at Detroit on Monday Night Football against the 4-2 Lions. Not only did star wide receiver Mike Evans returned to practice for the first time since injuring his hamstring in a Week 3 win against the Jets, so did cornerbacks Zyon McCollum and Benjamin Morrison.
Evans has missed three games due to his injured hamstring, but Tampa Bay avoided putting him on injured reserve, which would have required him to miss at least four games. While Evans is not a lock to play on Monday night in Detroit just yet, the Bucs are hopeful that he doesn’t encounter a setback in practice this week.
“He was limited,” Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said on Thursday. “He did some things – obviously, he did some things very well. We’ve just got to monitor it throughout the week. But, just to see him in a helmet right now, coming out there in the jersey and doing some of the things that he’s doing, is very encouraging for us.”

McCollum, who had an interception last year at Detroit in Tampa Bay’s Week 2 win, underwent a thumb surgery to repair ligament damage and missed last week’s game against the 49ers after playing through the injury versus the Seahawks. Morrison has been out since the Eagles game in Week 4 with a hamstring injury.
Both McCollum and Benjamin were full participants in practice on Thursday, while Evans was limited. Having the cornerback position fully stocked will help Bowles and Co. as the Bucs try to shut down a potent Lions offense that has plenty of weapons for Jared Goff to throw to.
Todd Bowles Addresses Other Injured Buccaneers
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said that the return of practice squad offensive lineman Michael Jordan could be on the horizon as he returned to practice.
“He did some things today, too,” Bowles said. “He did some things well and we’ve got to monitor him throughout the week, but he’s trending in the right direction.”
Tampa Bay elevated Jordan from the practice squad for the first two games of the year where he started at left guard until injuring his knee at Houston in Week 2. He has one more elevation left this year, and that could come on Monday, as right guard Luke Haggard injured his shoulder versus San Francisco and won’t play this week.

Bowles also addressed the expected return of starting right tackle Luke Goedeke, who is not out for the year as some have speculated. Goedeke aggravated a foot injury in Week 2 against the Texans and has been on injured reserve ever since. He’s eligible to return off IR this week after missing four games, but Goedeke is not ready to practice yet.
“I would hope he’s back, yes. He should be,” Bowles said.
“When he gets out there and practices, I’ll have a better ballpark. Until now, he’s rehabbing like the rest of them. I honestly don’t have one right now until I see him out there running around doing something. I don’t have a ballpark estimate of him right now.”
