We have another former Bucs coach joining the Pewter Report Podcast on Monday, November 3rd at 4:00 PM ET! Tampa Bay’s first Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden will be on the show! We’ll discuss several topics with Gruden, including his championship with the team and his thoughts on the current roster.

Gruden has also gained plenty of notoriety for his coverage of the NFL through Barstool Sports, ESPN, and other ventures. We’ll see how that’s gone for him from a media perspective in his career.

Summarizing “Chucky’s” tenure in Tampa Bay, his arrival in Tampa Bay in 2002 marked a transformative era in Buccaneers history. Taking over a team already built on one of the league’s most ferocious defenses, Gruden injected a new energy and offensive edge that helped push the franchise over the top. In his first season, he guided the Bucs to a 12-4 record and reshaped the offense with sharper execution and discipline to complement Monte Kiffin’s dominant defense.

Gruden’s fiery leadership and demand for excellence resonated throughout the locker room, particularly with veterans like Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, and John Lynch. The result was a historic playoff run culminating in a 48-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders — Gruden’s former team — in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Beyond the championship, Gruden’s tenure produced two NFC South titles (2002, 2005) and four winning seasons, keeping Tampa Bay competitive in one of the NFL’s toughest divisions. He also played a key role in revitalizing fan enthusiasm, turning Raymond James Stadium into an electric venue. For all the ups and downs that followed, Gruden’s 2002 season remains the gold standard in Bucs history — the year Tampa Bay finally ascended to the NFL’s mountaintop.
