The most noteworthy development from Wednesday’s Bucs practice was that running back Bucky Irving (shoulder, foot) returned and was a limited participant. Dealing with foot and shoulder injuries, the fact that Irving was seen out there for the first time since Week 4 is a positive sign.
Being that it was a walk-through practice, head coach Todd Bowles was quick to put an asterisk on his participation. Still, there is renewed optimism that he could return soon, but a lot is dependent on how the rest of the week goes.
“It was a walk-through,” Bowles said about Irving returning on Wednesday. “He was limited today; we’ll see what he does tomorrow and Friday. It was good to have him back out there, and it’s the first step to work his way back.”

Outside of this latest development, there is other positive injury news to touch on.
Just as notable is wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. (fibula) trending in a positive direction after he has missed most of the season. Godwin has unfortunately dealt with another injury but seeing him as a limited participant is encouraging as the hope is he can return at some point down the stretch. That would only bolster the wide receiver room and provide quarterback Baker Mayfield with another playmaker.
With the good news comes the bad news, though.
Outside linebacker Haason Reddick (ankle, knee) did not participate and joining him with that designation was left guard Ben Bredeson. Both starters beginning the week by not being out there for a walk-through does not bode well for their chances of playing this week, barring a quick turnaround. Outside linebacker Markees Watts (wrist) was limited, and it remains to be seen how his injury is healing. The team added practice squad depth behind Watts on Wednesday morning, just in case.
Popping up on the injury report after not being listed last week are defensive tackle Vita Vea (back) and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot). It is worth monitoring each defensive star, who each were limited.
Vea’s back is not an injury that comes up much, as the big nose tackle usually has foot injuries that appear several times throughout the year. That is not surprising given his stature, which makes a back ailment more concerning. After missing half of last year dealing with foot and knee injuries, seeing Winfield’s name come up is another red flag.
Thursday and Friday’s injury reports will be more telling for every player here, but as has been the case most of the season, the Bucs’ injuries are a mixed bag of good and bad news with some players returning and other players getting injured.
