Just when it was thought that the Bucs were getting healthier, they’re missing out on arguably their best player on the team. Following Friday’s practice, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles announced that starting left tackle Tristan Wirfs will not be playing in Sunday’s game. Also out is outside linebacker Anthony Nelson along with defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, who hasn’t played since Week 2 but has the 21-day practice window open for him.

This is the fifth game of the season that Wirfs will be out for. Replacing him is rookie undrafted free agent Ben Chukwuma, who is very raw, but has a lot of size and talent. He has one start on the year and played solid in that role. Chukwuma has an opportunity to solidify an important role for him moving forward into next season.

With Nelson unavailable, that means Jason Pierre-Paul will be elevated from the practice squad for the second week in a row. He’ll get more snaps in this game as the Bucs already trust him more than they do for Chris Braswell in his second season. Maybe JPP can find a way to help the team, he’ll back up Yaya Diaby and Haason Reddick as they face a rookie quarterback in his second start. The four man pass rush needs to get home if the Bucs plan on winning.
