The Bucs announced on Sunday that they have completed an interview with veteran play caller Zac Robinson for Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator job. Robinson was previously the offensive coordinator for the Falcons, so he has a lot of experience with the Bucs’ personnel and the NFC South overall.

Robinson’s History
Spending two years in Atlanta, Robinson was the Falcons offensive coordinator under Raheem Morris during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Atlanta had the league’s 13th-ranked (22.9 ppg) scoring offense in 2024, but the unit fell to 24th (20.8 ppg) this past season as the Falcons went 8-9 in back-to-back seasons.
Atlanta ranked sixth (369.8 avg.) in total yards in 2024, but regressed to 14th (333 avg.) in 2025, perhaps due to quarterback Michael Penix Jr. tearing his ACL and the team forced to turn to 37-year old backup Kirk Cousins. The Falcons passing attack ranked fifth (239.3 avg.) in 2024, but fell to 19th (207.2 avg.) last season, in part due to missing star receiver Drake London for several games due to injury.

Atlanta’s rushing attack has always been strong due to the 1-2 punch of Pro Bowler Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. The Falcons ranked 10th (125.8 avg.) in rushing in 2024 and eighth (130.5 avg.) in rushing last season.
Just like former Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Robinson has roots in Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams offense. Robinson spent five seasons with McVay, elevating from the Rams assistant quarterbacks coach to passing game coordinator/QB coach before calling plays for the first time in Atlanta in 2024. Robinson was the Rams quarterbacks coach when Baker Mayfield was in L.A. for the end of the 2022 season.
The Bucs planned to interview Robinson for their offensive coordinator vacancy in 2024, but he took the job in Atlanta before meeting with Tampa Bay. The Bucs ultimately went with Coen, who helped produce a top 5 offense in Tampa Bay in terms of scoring offense and rushing yardage.

Robinson and the Falcons went 3-1 vs. the Bucs over the past two seasons. Atlanta’s quarterbacks combined for 12 touchdown passes and just one interception, while averaging 29 points per game and averaging 444 total yards vs. Tampa Bay’s defense.
Bucs Coaching Search Continues
Tampa Bay is beginning its offensive coordinator search with experienced play-callers. With Todd Bowles facing a make-or-break 2026 season after finishing 8-9 in 2025 and missing the playoffs after losing the NFC South title to Carolina, the Bucs are probably wise to avoid hiring a first-time play-caller if they can avoid it.
They have already interviewed former Titans head coach Brian Callahan along with Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, and Lions pass game coordinator David Shaw. Talking with Robinson makes him and Callahan thus far as the only candidates that have called plays in NFL games. Although there are probably more experienced play-caller interviews to come as Mike McDaniel and Todd Monken are certainly on the team’s radar.

Its an intriguing job for any candidate to have. On the one hand, you’re joining a team that has a coach on the hot season after a down year. On the other, its an opportunity to call plays with a lot of talent such as Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, Chris Godwin Jr, Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka. The Bucs have seen two offensive coordinators become head coaches after a seaosn in Tampa Bay, this could put another on the same trajectory.
