The Bucs hired Zac Robinson to be their offensive coordinator. He checks every box that the Bucs were looking for, most notably being an experienced play caller, coming from a great coaching tree, and having coached quarterback Baker Mayfield before. The fact that Robinson just came from the NFC South with the Falcons is also a plus.
While we have several months to talk about Robinson and the impact he’ll have in Tampa Bay, we also have to find out who else is coming to the Bucs’ offensive coaching staff from outside organizations, and who currently on the staff is staying or leaving.
Update On Potential Bucs Assistant Coach Hires
There have already been some updates on who could be following Zac Robinson to Tampa. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it looks like Robinson could be bringing Ken Zampese and T.J. Yates with him to Tampa Bay, each were coaches with him in Atlanta.
Zampese was the senior offensive assistant under Robinson for two seasons with the Falcons. However, he has a history with Baker Mayfield that predates even Robinson’s familiarity when Robinson and Mayfield were on the Rams.

Back in 2018 with the Browns, Zampese was the quarterbacks coach for Mayfield in his rookie year in Cleveland. Mayfield played in 14 games and started in 13 of them, throwing for 3,725 yards with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions having a 6-7 record. It wasn’t too bad for a rookie, but then head coach Hue Jackson was fired and Zampese was not retained.
Yates has NFL playing experience, spending seven years in the league primarily as a backup quarterback. He played in 22 career games and had 10 starts with 4-6 record but did have two playoff starts and went 1-1. Yates had 2,057 career passing yards with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions before retiring in 2017.
He got into coaching two years later in 2019 as an offensive system on the Houston Texans, the team he played the most for in the NFL. Eventually Yates went to the Falcons in 2021 and has had roles such as passing game specialist, wide receivers coach and quarterbacks coach. Then in 2025, he became the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach with Robinson.

The group of Robinson, Zampese and Yates bring a combination of experience and familiarity in this new stop with the Bucs.
Bucs Keeping Coaches Is A Huge Deal
Another fair question with the hiring of Zac Robinson is what does this mean for the current offensive coaches on staff? Only Josh Grizzard and former quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis were let go after the season. That means everyone else is still with Tampa Bay until Robinson determines otherwise. Luckily there’s history between Robinson and some coaches.
Per Greg Auman of Fox Sports, Robinson and the Bucs will “definitely” be keeping offensive line coach Kevin Carberry. The two worked together with the Rams and Carberry has been a dynamo as an offensive line coach for the Bucs in 2024 and 2025. There’s a reason why Liam Coen tried to poach Carberry to Jacksonville when he went there.
Zac Robinson will work on his offensive staff with the Bucs in the next week, but he'll definitely be keeping run game coordinator/OL coach Kevin Carberry, who worked with him with the Rams in 2021-22.

Carberry had a big challenge last season as well with all the injuries on the offensive line. He oversaw all the turbulence that began the season with moving center Graham Barton to left tackle, left guard Ben Bredeson to center, and practice squad player Mike Jordan to guard.

He’s also dealt with an offensive line that was without Cody Mauch since after Week 2, having to put Jordan and Dan Feeney in their at times. In Week 3, it was Luke Haggard and Elijah Klein at the starting guard position. Other obstacles the team had to overcome is having Luke Goedeke on injured reserve for a portion of the season, meaning Charlie Heck had to start at tackle. Carberry coached up rookie undrafted free agent Ben Chukwuma enough to start at tackle in important games.
Running backs coach Skip Peete has a chance to stay on given that he was a coach on the Rams’ staff for a season when Robinson was there. Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon has done such a good job with a young group of receivers that it wouldn’t make sense for Tampa Bay to let go of him. The coach that may be in jeopardy is passing game coordinator Kefense Hynson, who spent one year with the Bucs and was brought in by Grizzard. He has no connection or ties to Robinson and is likely on the move somewhere else.
Robinson has a lot on his plate going into the 2026 season as he attempts to upgrade this talented offense. Building out his staff is another step to it.
