The Bucs recently introduced Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator earlier in the week. Not long after, we are starting to see new additions to the offensive coaching staff take place. According to ESPN senior college football writer Pete Thamel, Tampa Bay is hiring former Oklahoma State offensive line coach Andrew Mitchell as an assistant offensive line coach for the Bucs’ offense.

This move comes after Tampa Bay lost assistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci as he went to the Jaguars to work with Liam Coen again. It opened up a spot for Mitchell, who has deep ties with Zac Robinson.
Andrew Mitchell’s Coaching History And Connections To Bucs OC Zac Robinson
The connection is obvious between Andrew Mitchell and Zac Robinson as they were teammates at Oklahoma State together. He was an offensive tackle there in 2008 and 2009 while Robinson was the quarterback from 2005 to 2009. Mitchell went undrafted after Oklahoma State and spent time with the Bengals and then practice squad and offseason opportunities with the Seahawks and Jaguars.

Mitchell got his first coaching gig with Houston in 2013 as a graduate assistant. He then spent time at North Carolina and TCU before becoming the offensive line coach at Indiana State in 2016. Mitchell was hired by Snow college as their offensive coordinator for the next two seasons. In the junior college level, they led the league with 6.7 yards per rushing attempts and 23.1 first downs per game in 2018.
Following another stop at TCU, Mitchell spent the most time of his coaching career at New Mexico State where he was an offensive line coach in 2022 and 2023, then named an assistant head coach along with offensive line coach in 2024. The Lobos had an even record of 20-20 in those three seasons.
Going on the move again, Mitchell headed back to his alma matter Oklahoma State for the 2025 campaign. It did not go as desired, though, as the Cowboys went 1-11 and longtime coach Mike Gundy was fired after the first three games and a 1-2 record. With Doug Meachem taking over, they did not win another game. The university hired Eric Morris to be the head coach next season, which likely signaled that Mitchell would be looking elsewhere for employment.
This will be the first NFL coaching opportunity for Mitchell. He has never spent more than three years at one school, so we’ll see if the change of scenery with the Bucs will keep him around longer. He gets to work under Tampa Bay offensive line coach and run game coordinator Kevin Carberry, who is held in high regard for the work he’s done here in two seasons.

With the help of Carberry, Mitchell has the chance to work with a great offensive line when healthy. He has the best left tackle in the league with Tristan Wirfs along with underrated right tackle with Tristan Wirfs. If right guard Cody Mauch recovers from his knee injury and left guard Ben Bredeson heals up, the only question the Bucs will have on the offensive line going into the 2026 season is how much center Graham Barton can grow in his third year.
It’s the first offensive coaching addition that has offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s prints all over it. There could be more coming during this 2026 offseason.
