There’s no shortage of intrigue surrounding the Bucs heading into the 2026 season, but one name continues to surface as a potential difference-maker — second year wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

According to ESPN article by Mike Clay, Aarson Schatz and Seth Walder where they look at every team’s NFL roster, Egbuka has already been identified as Tampa Bay’s biggest X-factor, and it’s easy to see why. The writers looked at each team’s biggest strengths, weaknesses, non-starter to know, and X-Factor. Here is what was said from Walder about Egbuka:

Bucs WR Egbuka Emerging As Big X-Factor This Season

“X factor for 2026: WR Emeka Egbuka. He came out of the gates flying last season as a rookie but cooled off immensely down the stretch. Which version will the Buccaneers get in 2026? With Mike Evans gone and Chris Godwin Jr. now 30 years old, they’ll need early-season Egbuka to come through. One number that has me a little concerned — Egbuka posted just a 36 open score last season, which ranked 104th out of 110 wide receivers. — Walder”

The former Ohio State standout enters a situation where opportunity and expectation collide. Defenses no longer need to key in on star Mike Evans as he left for San Francisco, so the Bucs looking to expand their offensive versatility. Egbuka, who had a good rookie campaign as the Bucs’ leading receiver, coming close to 1,000 yard receiving,  could quickly carve out a significant role as the number one receiver on this team even with a healthy Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan. His polished route-running, strong hands and ability to create separation make him a natural fit in the passing game.

What makes Egbuka especially intriguing is his readiness. Unlike many receivers entering the league who need time to adjust, he arrived with a reputation for being pro-ready, a player capable of contributing immediately, and that’s exactly what he did scoring big touchdowns early on. That’s a big reason why ESPN highlighted him as a player who could swing outcomes for Tampa Bay this season.

And his impact may go beyond just stats.

Looking At Bucs’ Offense

Egbuka’s presence gives quarterback “>Baker Mayfield a reliable weapon, particularly in critical situations. Whether it’s moving the chains on third down or exploiting favorable matchups in the slot, his versatility opens up a lot for Tampa Bay’s offense.

There’s also the element of unpredictability. If Egbuka continues in his development and picks up where he left off, he could become the piece that opposing teams struggle to account for. That’s the essence of an X-factor — a player who changes the equation.

Of course, there are still questions to be answered about the Bucs’ 2026 season. How quickly can chemistry be built with new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson? Who emerges from the receiver room as the top target? Can running back Bucky Irving return to form? Will a contract year help or hurt Baker Mayfield this season?

Yes, there are questions, but the upside is undeniable.

If Egbuka continues to live up to his billing, he won’t just be a piece — he could be a catalyst for the entire offense. And for a Bucs team looking to take the next step, that might be exactly what they need.
