Pewter Report’s Camp Diary series is back for the Bucs’ 2026 training camp in a new format with video interviews in addition to partial transcriptions.

This year’s Pewter Report Camp Diary participants are undrafted free agent quarterback Jalon Daniels, who will represent Tampa Bay’s offense and the rookie class, as well as outside linebacker David Walker, who represents the veterans and the defensive side of the ball.

OLB David Walker was drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after racking up 39 sacks in four years in college, including the last two at Central Arkansas. At 6-foot-1, 258 pounds, Walker has freaky athleticism and a wide array of pass rush moves. Yet he has yet to truly showcase his ability, as he suffered a season-ending knee injury on the third day of training camp during his rookie season.

David, who was the subject of last year’s Training Camp Diary for just one installment, is back with a vengeance for year two in Tampa Bay. Now healthy and stronger after a year of rehab and learning Todd Bowles’ defense behind the scenes in the classroom and the film room, Walker is ready to make up for lost time, let it rip in training camp and earn some playing time as a situational pass rusher behind starters Yaya Diaby and Rueben Bain Jr.

David Walker Camp Diary: Bucs Ready To Shoot Down The Jets

The following is an excerpt from Scott Reynolds’ second exclusive pre-training camp interview with OLB David Walker. Scott Reynolds: David Walker, what a start to camp you’ve had so far – we’re over a week into this. The great part is we only did one Training Camp Diary last year. You got past that and now we’re doing two – and more importantly, you got to pads and man, you’ve absolutely thrived. How are you feeling?

David Walker: “I just want to thank God. I feel great, man. I’m excited. I’m excited about the season – about what’s to come up and what we’re about to do as a defense. I’m just excited to be back.”

Scott Reynolds: We have now had eight practices, and you’ve had at least one sack in every single practice – sometimes two. That’s what you came here to do.

David Walker: “Yeah, man. I’m just glad to be able to be back doing my job, being back to rushing the passer again and being alongside Yaya [Diaby], [Al-Quadin] Mohamed and [Rueben] Bain. It’s a great feeling.”

Scott Reynolds: What has worked for you so well? What moves have you been waiting for over a year to really use on this offensive line that has gotten you to the quarterback?

David Walker: “Man this offseason, my coach back in in college, just fine tuning the little stuff – the steps, the band, the flexibility. And just going back to basics to round one – the power, the speed to power. Just the stuff that I’m comfortable doing and I’m excited to display it this year.”

Scott Reynolds: We talked about it – you didn’t get to pads last year. What was it like to finally put on the pads after a long year and go out there and do your thing? Because that’s really where the defensive line can show up and we’ve seen that so far in camp.

David Walker: “Yeah it felt weird at first. Man, I haven’t put on pads since the Senior Bowl. Getting the chance to put on pads. It was a great feeling after I hit a couple of people. Man, I’m excited.”

Scott Reynolds: Do you feel like you’ve got some momentum now? You’re the only guy that has had a sack in every practice so far and again sometimes you have more than one.

David Walker: “Yeah, I’m just excited to do whatever the coaches asked me to do. If that’s go out there on rush and just rush, so be it. But I’m excited to see what this group is going to do this year.”

Scott Reynolds: You know you’re not the only headliner out on along that defensive line. Talk about the play of the tackles and the guys in between you and either Nelly (Anthony Nelson) or Al-Quadin Mohammed or whoever you’re rushing with – Chris Braswell. Whether it’s first-string, second-string, third-string – the defensive tackles from A’Shawn [Robinson] and Nacho (Rakeem Nunez-Roches) to Jayson Jones and Elijah Roberts – just getting their thing done up front.

David Walker: “Yeah, we’re excited to add Coach Marcus [West]. It’s four equals one – we’re all rushing together, and we all know where each other is going. I feel like we’re all one accord this year. That’s going to help us this year a lot – just in the pass rush situations. Knowing when to cover or knowing when to do natural, so we’re excited.”
