PewterReport.com began a new offseason feature this year, giving readers an opportunity to get their questions answered about the Bucs by the PR staff. Today, Mark Cook answers five questions taken from Twitter submissions and our message boards using the hashtag #PRMailbag.

Alldayway asked, what exact progress is the Bucs FO looking from McDougald? I know the Bucs FO is high on him, but what is the bar for McDougald this season and beyond?

Answer: The Bucs coaching staff, when Lovie Smith was the head coach, certainly was high on McDougald, and I suppose the front office as well. The fact that they didn’t seek out a safety in the draft with a early draft pick says they have hopes for the former Jayhawk. But I believe they are approaching this as a make-or-break year, partly because they only offered him a one-year deal. The team could have easily locked him up at a relatively low price if they felt he was definitely the safety of the future. While the safety play has been lacking this season, I thought it was much improved in last week’s win over the Panthers. McDougald led the team in tackles, playing very physical against the run and making sure tackles. I think the jury is still out, however if he can build off of last week’s game, everyone will be pleased moving forward.

Bucsbigot wants to know, how much of Jameis Winstons accuracy issues come from being just too excited and moving too fast compared to mechanics?

Answer: As Dirk Koetter often says, if it were a simple answer, it would be an easy fix. The answer could be as simple as you mentioned, or the issue could be more complex. As an FSU fan, Winston rarely was a fast starter in college and that trend has continued in the NFL. But Winston tends to settle down as the game goes on, and when he hits his rhythm, there aren’t maybe quarterbacks in the league who are better. Now the question is, how to get him into that rhythm earlier? There is no question he is excitable, but he also has in the past started games quickly – Pitt in his first ever college start, Clemson in 2013 for example – so he has it in him. It may be a combination of things, and it may be something Bucs fans just have to live with.

Samer Ali asks, at what point do we get a report on Sweezy? Could he return? Or will we never see him in red/pewter? ZERO answers so far?

Answer: It is certainly frustrating for fans, however teams just don’t give out this information. There is no rule that say they must, and Sweezy himself may not want any of his medical information released. Perhaps when he does return back to the locker room we can ask him, but I don’t know that happens anytime soon. Dirk said today he just goes by what his medical staff says, and right now, Sweezy isn’t ready. I don’t really worry about players that aren’t here and honestly Kevin Pamphile has graded out as good as any linemen so far this season.

Ren Daxt asks, Louis Murphy can play some outside, with his return do you think Vincent Jackson gets some snaps in slot to get him more involved?

Answer: I am not sure what it means for Jackson, but I expect the Bucs to try and get Murphy as involved, as soon as possible. There is no equation the offense can use some juice, and while I am not sure Murphy can provide it, it will be nice to have another receiver as an option. Donteea Dye is back on the practice squad as well, and with the constant roster shuffling going on between the practice squad and the active roster, the Bucs are exploring any combination of receivers they can at this point.

Parris asks, If 2017 started tomorrow Ryan Griffin is not the solution for backup QB could the Bucs overpay to keep Glennon?

Answer: That is an interesting question. I really like Mike a lot and it would great to see him back. But from talking to him just casually off the field and in the locker room, he really would love to go to a team where he has a legitimate chance of winning a starting job. There is just no way to say for sure what the market holds for Glennon but I for sure expect him to test it. The Bucs front office does as well.
